Social Media and the Zombie Apocalypse

With Halloween fast approaching, we love seeing the Internet come alive with horrific images, videos, and contests. Just so you know, this office is zombie friendly. We love zombie movies and TV shows. We’re also prepared for an outbreak, so our clients need not fear. When the zombie apocalypse hits, we’ll still be working on your campaigns (at least until the power goes out and our smartphones die).

We’re also fans of social media. Naturally, we were delighted when Hootsuite and Zendesk agreed to a zombie video showdown to promote their respective platforms. Especially after having watched both 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later in the past two weeks, because the title of this little showdown is #28TweetsLater. Brilliant!

Anyhow, each company has produced a video to show you how easy it is to use their platforms. A winner will be declared based on production quality, zombie genre representation, viewer preference and how many views, comments and likes each video gets by the end of Halloween. See how they tied social media directly to the contest? Again, very smart.

It’s pretty awesome. And there’s a lesson to be learned here. If you create content that your viewers like and/or find informative, they’ll share it. That’s what I’m doing here. I think the zombie video showdown is a great idea, so I’m telling our readers about it. I’m doing exactly what Hootsuite and Zendesk want me to do . . . spread the word about their products.

So what could social media do for your company?
